Beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, a standard licensed teacher will be required to maintain a minimum of 36 professional development hours per school year. Standard licensed teachers are required to maintain a minimum of 36 professional development hours per school year.

All teachers and administrators must be able to document the required professional development hours annually for the renewal of their standard teaching license. All professional development must be completed within either of the following cycles during each year: June 1 to May 31 or July 1 to June 30.

  • State Professional Development Hours Option- For each course completed, you will earn either 30-45 Professional Development Hours toward the 36 annual state PD hours requirement. You can now register for our courses at any time. When you register for one of our self-paced courses you will have up to 4 months from the date of registration to complete your course. Since these courses are completely self-paced the amount of time to complete it will be dependent on how much time you put into it on a regular basis. Most teachers are able to finish their course within a 4 week period.
  • Graduate Credits Option: Teach & Kids Learn (TKL) provides accredited university graduate credits courses. We provide official transcripts. and letter grades upon the successful completion of your selected course. When selecting your course, choose any of our Graduate Credit level courses from our registration page.

1 Graduate Credit = 15 Professional Development hours

We always recommend that you follow any pre-approval requirements in your district before you register for courses. However, many teachers have been successful using our courses to advance on their district’s salary scale—and have typically been able to use our university/college-level course offerings.

Forms:
Verification for Individual Professional Development Training Form – This form may be used to document a single professional development activity. While this form may be used by all teachers, it will be most helpful for those teachers that are not employed, as a way of verifying completion of the 60 hours of professional development required annually. This form will accompany the application for licensure renewal, only for those teachers not employed.

Verification of Professional Development for Licensure Renewal Form – This form may be used to verify professional development and the required work experience necessary for the renewal of a standard Arkansas teaching license for teachers that are employed in non-public school settings (or other agencies/organizations requiring a licensed teacher) and institutions of higher education. This form will accompany the application for the renewal of a teaching license.
