School Level Parent and Family Involvement

In this course, we will discuss how a school can facilitate parent and family involvement. Schools, as an institution, can be especially welcoming and can work to include parents in a variety of ways. Conversely, schools can be seen as unwelcoming and unfriendly to parents. It is critical that schools analyze how they are helping to bring parents into the building and how they are working towards a community environment where all are welcomed.

There are many strategies and explicit steps that school personnel can take to assure that the school is a welcoming environment for parents. Through this course, you will reflect upon your own school environment and consider ways to enhance the environment as well as the actions of school personnel to create an environment in which parents not only feel welcomed but also inspired to engage with the school community.
