Our Personalized Professional Development Learning Design
Teach n’ Kids Learn (TKL) applies an innovative and research-based approach to the design and delivery of effective and efficient professional development that builds capacity for teachers. When designing our online professional learning program, Teach n’ Kids Learn (TKL) has found a way to successfully blend essential learning theory with the practical real-world application necessary for today’s teachers
Each learning opportunity is designed to support teachers in making evolutionary changes to their instructional practice. This means that every teacher begins where they currently are within the course focus and then, through cycles of critical self-reflection and experiential, or in-classroom work, they focus on making positive changes to their practice. Through the use of both formative and summative learning activities, participants are taken through a scaffolded approach to creating better learning classrooms for students.
Within each course, participants engage in the following learning cycle:
Participants are introduced to the foundational understandings of the course materials and content focus.
Participants complete a self-assessment of their own instructional practices in relation to the overall course focus.
Participants are presented with the course information and strategies that are used to complete a combination of scaffolded engaging lesson activities.
Through the course lesson activities, participants create or modify their instructional plans to incorporate the new strategies formulated during the course.
Through the lesson activities, participants are asked to reflect on their own practices, as well as determine the degree of student learning outcomes achieved.
Upon completing all lesson activities, participants reflect on the degree of impact on student learning and determine additional areas where modifications might be necessary for future classroom lessons.
