Caryn is a course facilitator for Teach n’ Kids Learn (TKL).

She has taught 1st – 5th grade in Portland, OR for over 12 years.  Caryn has collaborated to develop integrated curriculum/Scottish Storyline curriculum for 1st – 6th grade learners in the Portland area. She has spent much of her teaching career working within the design tenets of the Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound (ELOB) model. As a former professional actor/improvisational theatre coach, Caryn incorporates improv into classroom learning as well as into classroom management.

Caryn was a Fellow with the University of Washington / Puget Sound Writing Project’s Teacher, Writer, Researcher Program. She has facilitated professional development in writing, reading, and classroom management. Caryn was a member of her district’s Equity Team for 6 years, and is deeply committed to her lifelong learning and lifelong action as far as equity, cultural competence, and interrupting systemic racism are concerned.

She has a Master of Arts in Teaching from Lewis and Clark College in Portland as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Marymount Manhattan College in NYC.

Caryn lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and her son. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, writing, reading, hiking, and spending time with her friends and family.
