Motivating Reluctant Learners

According to educational research from Joyce M. Herzog, a reluctant learner is a student that is not interested in what the teacher is teaching and consequently, not able to learn within the time-frame nor manner of presentation provided (2002, as cited by 123HelpMe, February 2019).

The goals and priorities for this course are intended to provide opportunities for teachers to proficiently identify the variety of factors and attributes that influence students to become reluctant learners, including the supporting educational research that investigates a wide range of influences that impact and shape how students are motivated within learning contexts, while recognizing that students have diverse learner needs. Based upon these understandings, teachers will identify a variety of strategies for increasing student motivation, while creating a positive learning environment conducive for all students to achieve their great potential for learning.

In particular, teachers will investigate relevant teaching and student-based strategies designed to help motivate students, strength classroom autonomy and help students develop their own self-efficacy for personal growth and development.
