Effective Strategies for Remote Learning: How to Maintain An Engaging Classroom
The global pandemic age has forced us to recognize a universal truth, that students and learners are not created on an equitable footing, and that we as teachers, need to do all we can to level the playing field. During the lockdowns of 2020 extending into 2021, we have seen remote learning become a necessity for many learners across the globe. While virtual learning affords a winder berth of opportunities, as teachers and students can take advantage of the many interactive and digital applications, many students suffer from the lack of individual attention, social interaction, and engagement typical in a standard classroom. It is incumbent upon us as teachers to develop and strategize ways to maintain student engagement and learning throughout remote learning.
In this course, you will find ways to understand and identify students who may be falling between the cracks. Between lack of quality internet access, a quiet place to learn, or a stressful home situation, students are not all provided with the environment they need to continue learning in a typical fashion. By participating in this course, you will learn how to keep students accountable virtually and various ways to differentiate learning so that any assessment taking place during virtual learning is an accurate representation of what is being accomplished. This course will guide you through software platforms that are commonly used for remote learning, safety, techniques, and innovative ideas. Finally, you will learn many ways to enhance student attention and retention despite the challenges posed by the remote learning atmosphere. Gamification with many free platforms will be explored in-depth.
