This course is for content area teachers in grades 6-12 who wish to deepen their own understanding of how to help their students become more effective and efficient readers, writers, listeners, speakers and deep thinkers. Participants will explore how content teachers can support the ELA standards within the subjects of History, Social Studies, Science and/or Technical subjects.
Teachers will learn specific strategies for helping students read content materials with deeper levels of understanding. This course will help content teachers meet Disciplinary Literacy standards for reading, writing, listening and speaking.
This interactive course is designed for job-embedded learning and practical classroom application using our virtual lesson study process. This virtual lesson study environment will help facilitate the process for teachers to better incorporate the instructional practices outlined in State Standards, embed writing instruction in ongoing teaching and classroom units and lesson plans.
