Educators currently employed in an Ohio public school or district, chartered non-public school or community school are responsible for the design of an Individual Professional Development Plan, subject to the approval of the Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC). The plan should be based on the needs of the educator, the students, the school and the school district, and be aligned with the professional educator standards adopted by the State Board of Education.

  • State Re-Certification CEU  Option- Ohio teachers can use our State Re-Certification option during the registration process to earn continuing education units (CEUs) for updating license class. For each course completed, you will earn 45 contact hours (4.5 CEUs)  toward the 18 needed for the renewal of your OhioTeaching Certificate.

We always recommend that you follow any pre-approval requirements in your district before you register for courses. However, many teachers have been successful using our courses to advance on their district’s salary scale—and have typically been able to use our university/college-level course offerings.

Please contact us if you need assistance with the submission of your district approval forms, course syllabus, etc.

No pre-approval of coursework: Applicants do not need to seek pre-approval of coursework from the Ohio Department of Education. The Department does not pre-approve coursework. Applicants should select coursework related to classroom teaching and/or area of licensure.

In accordance with the approved plan, the educator must complete:

  1. Six semester hours of coursework related to classroom teaching and/or the area of licensure; or
  2. 18 continuing education units (CEUs) (180 contact hours); or
  3. Other equivalent activities related to classroom teaching and/or the area of licensure as approved by the LPDC of the employing school, district or agency since the issuance of the license to be renewed
