Maine teachers with a professional teacher certificate may renew for a five (5) year term unless the teacher has attained certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, in which case the renewal period is for a ten (10) year term. To renew, you must complete six (6) semester hours of approved study or 90 hours of in-service training and obtain verification from the School Administrative Unit (SAU) that the professional teacher certificate may be renewed. If you are not employed by an SAU, you must provide documentation of the successful completion of six (6) semester hours of approved study or 90 hours of in-service training.
If you are not employed in Maine under a professional certificate, you must submit six credits of approved study taken within the last five years.
1 Graduate Credit = 1 Semester Hour
